Haiku

I was inspired to write a few haiku by visiting reprehriestless warillever. But I have not been brave enough to inquire exactly what this name means! She participated in Momma Blogga’s writing project. I think I’ll be following her lead and sprinkling a few poems in the old blog every now and then. Here’s the first:

Noisy cicada
Hoping to find his true love
Chirps loudly all day

Anna’s 5 Question Meme

This meme is from Sincerely Anna

What’s in the trunk of your car (or back of your SUV or minivan) right now?

Hmm. Aldi bags. A flat tire repair kit. A red, white, and blue basketball. A piece of styrofoam. Some yellow rope. A pink winter hat.

What’s one thing that you’ve saved from your childhood?

A ceramic bust I made of myself in art class when I was 9.

What five things would be on the World’s Perfect Appetizer Menu?

Eggrolls, dumplings, edamame, chicken satay, and…what else is there?? (Can you tell what my favorite food genre is?)

If you had an extra $50 in your wallet tomorrow, what would you spend it on?

A massage.

What is your favorite photograph of you and your family (where are you and what are you doing)?

We’re rarely all in one photograph these days. But the impromptu one from last Easter turned out lovely. We’re dressed in our Sunday best, and the photo was taken in our living room with the self-timer. We’ve always been partial to Easter pictures. We don’t get all gussied up very often. And we’re snapshot people not portrait people. And we are, after all, Easter people.

If you’d like to play along, here are my five:

1. What’s your favorite thing to do on a night out of the house and away from the kids?

2. What’s one habit you’d like to get rid of?

3. What’s one thing you’ve saved from your childhood? (really like that one)

4. Coffee or tea?

5. How long have you been blogging, and what do you like best about the experience?

Antique Mommy’s email:
Answer: NO! But you can link to me!! :)

Blog in my eye’s comment:
What I said: Very cute.
What I meant: Must go rack brain now to think of clever blog post
What I wanted to say: Can’t I just copy and paste this into my own blog?!

Go read Antique Mommy’s What I Said and you’ll understand. Man, she is good.

DO NOT be like me and think for an embarrassingly long time that she is some froo-froo mommy who has time to go antiquing without her children. She is a very sage and wise mommy, whose writings you will want to frame and hang in your bathroom.

While you’re there, don’t miss these other favorites ‘o mine:
How I Became an Antique Mommy
Of Bears and Boys
The Ponytail

This activity keeps my kids occupied for hours, but I’m so frugal that I don’t do it very often.

Set your kids up at the kitchen table with bowls, wooden spoons, cups, etc. and let them pretend to cook up their own gourmet dishes using water and whatever other items in your pantry you need to get rid of (i.e., stale cereal, old spices, expired condiments, etc.)

This is a particularly timely activity if you are moving and need to clean out your cabinets as it lets you a) get rid of all the stuff you can’t move and b) keeps the kiddies occupied while you pack up the rest of your house.

Hope it works for you. Happy cooking, everyone!

It took me 18 months to learn that I didn’t have to worry SO much about what was going to happen to my little girl each and every day or even someday. God let me know, in no uncertain terms, that she was His child, and He intended to take care of her. I got it. I was glad.

My parenting was forever changed. It doesn’t matter so much what three things I want my children to be, do, say, or wear. They are gifts from God that I unwrap a little more of each day. And I can’t wait to see what He has in store for them.

And so, what I would like them to remember, from Him is:

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. ~Deuteronomy 6:5

Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart ~Psalm 37:4

and

“No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him” ~1 Corinthians 2:9

Only by unwrapping these truths will they become all the He intends for them to be. I pray that He will allow me to be there to watch their lives unfold.

Blogthenticity

Let me tell ya. This blogging thing is harder than it looks. I am in awe that Shannon at Rocks in my Dryer writes her posts in five minute blocks here and there. That’s certainly what I would like to strive for. But will I ever be able to say anything worthwhile?

It’s been a bloggy rollercoaster lately peeking at my stats and spending a lot more time reading and commenting at other blogs. I’d just like to say as we’re getting to know each other better that I’d always like to be me over here. It’s tempting to try to write like BooMama or Clemntine, but I’m not THAT Southern or that funny. So, I’ll slog on and blog on trying to find my bloggy voice. (However, you MUST read BooMama’s Chutes and Ladder’s post today).

Here’s what God had to say about my bloggy voice a few days ago in my daily devotional from the New Living Translation. If you wanted to, you could sign up here.

“Anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom. Matthew 18:4

So often we try to look like we know all the answers and don’t need anyone’s help. Jesus says we ought to be like children–simple and honest about life and who we are. Now those are people he can use!”

I’m nothing if not simple and honest. So…Take this blog and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee.
