I’m gonna be 40 this year, people. I feel like I can sound pretty old and crotchety on this blog, but I look about 12 years old (ok, maybe 20 now) and I often feel about 4 years old inside (actually, I think that probably shows on this blog, too, darn it).
Being the introspective gal that I am, I’ve been pondering the looming 40-ness for awhile…like here and here and here.
I’m just curious if any of you have advice for me on aging gracefully. No pressure though. One thing I have learned recently from blogging…some things are not deserving of too much introspection.

About aging gracefully? I am realize now that every day — each and every day — we hold breath in our lungs, it is grace. I’m loosing the sense of entitlement. Rather than look over my shoulder (when they were fewer gray hairs), I think “this bird is a miracle. My son is a miracle. Look at that tree — who thought of that?” I have receded and creation has come into sharper focus. The trade-off is not half-bad. And I really think this perspective is God’s gift; it is true consolation. I turned 51 in December. I was not happy to turn 50.
Okay, I may not be near the big 4-0 anytime soon, but my 37yo husband is! He’s taken to doing things that he may not be able to do as well pretty quick. Like rock climbing and weights and other crazy things. When your body doesn’t feel old, it helps the young mind that you already have. RIGHT?
I know what doesn’t help my husband. Being reminded that I’m 3.5 years younger than him. hahahah. I’m evil that way.

I turned 51 in December…unbelievable! And like you, I’m trying to “age gracefully.” (See, you’re a youngster compared to me!) Coincidentally, I actually used the phrase “age gracefully” in my blog post today!
How do you age gracefully? I have to look at my mom. Nearly 75, she’s still gorgeous, dresses beautifully, and stays active mentally and physically. Most of all, she is a woman of prayer and Bible reading.
I truly believe that as you get older, it’s even more important to have that beauty that comes
from within. But some good old-fashioned practical advice doesn’t hurt, either…which is why I’d really like to get Charla Krupp’s book, “How Not to Look Old”!
