Most *cough* idiotic *cough* bumper sticker seen in quite some time

If you still sin,
you’re not saved.

This bumper sticker referenced 1 John 3:8-9.
In my Lutheran upbringing, I was taught that we are ALL saints and we are ALL sinners. And somewhere in all of this muck is probably part of the tension between those two missionary flicks that’s been bothering me. (Now, did you see the Martin Luther movie? I loved how he was constantly chatting with God telling him, “I’m yours. Save me.”)
I promise I don’t have PMS. I wonder what else could be up.
I wonder what they’d say about Paul saying “that which I hate, I do…”
Just some person who likes to bring up discord among brothers. (and sisters**) Which is one of the things got detests…remember in the OT?
and I LOVED…loved, loved the Martin Luther movie too. Maybe we have similar tastes….need to see your Netflix queue.
My pastor used to say, in our old church in Atlanta, “This church is not a museum for saints, it’s a school for sinners.” We loved that. Knew we were in good company.
Thanks for the link to “The Lutheran” magazine. We appreciate it!
Wha? Huh? That just doesn’t even compute in my simple little brain. I guess I’m just doomed.
“Can’t we all just get along?!” Very good points, all.
What the….??
I did not know that people had this train of thought until I read an article in No Greater Joy a few years ago that said “Sin no more!” I was shocked, to say the least. His points from Romans didn’t even come close to making sense.
That’s when I decided to stick to only taking their childrearing advice instead of following their doctrines.
I too love the Luther movie. That beer swilling monk was a good guy.
Man, I would have gone ballistic if I’d seen that bumper sticker. That is just sad.
Last I checked, Jesus was the only one capable of not sinning.
Yikes. Context is a beautiful thing. This bumper sticker is actually really sad, isn’t it? Totally not the message of Christ.
Exactly what does it say about me that I primarily wanted to see “Martin Luther” because of Joseph Fiennes?
God save me indeed.
(For the record - that bumper sticker = dumbness. The best/truest I’ve ever seen? “Jesus Loves You. Everyone else thinks you’re an asshole.”
