It took me 18 months to learn that I didn’t have to worry SO much about what was going to happen to my little girl each and every day or even someday. God let me know, in no uncertain terms, that she was His child, and He intended to take care of her. I got it. I was glad.
My parenting was forever changed. It doesn’t matter so much what three things I want my children to be, do, say, or wear. They are gifts from God that I unwrap a little more of each day. And I can’t wait to see what He has in store for them.
And so, what I would like them to remember, from Him is:
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. ~Deuteronomy 6:5
Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart ~Psalm 37:4
and
“No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him” ~1 Corinthians 2:9
Only by unwrapping these truths will they become all the He intends for them to be. I pray that He will allow me to be there to watch their lives unfold.
I love this post. Good word picture of unwrapping the gift that God has given us in our kids. Each one is so unique and God has so much to teach us through their individual personalities, challenges, and triumphs.
Beautiful!
See, this is what you taught me. You explain it more eloquently, but yeah, this is what I meant! 😉
Your third verse reminded me of another New Testament verse that, like the Corinthians passage, I think of when times are hard (and that just goes to show that Paul was a Southerner, too!):
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18).
Thanks for participating!
Great stuff. It is a blessing that you realized this while your child was 18 months. How many never realize it. I struggle on and off. Anxiety is a thorn in my flesh of sorts. But Gods grace and provision is helping me conquer it! AMEN!

wonderful spin on this project. Thank you for sharing it!
Beautiful post and so true! I always have to remind myself of 1 Peter 5:7–cast all your cares upon Him for He cares for you.
I’m always trying to take back my worries. I am constantly having to hand them back over. Especially when it comes to my kids.
“It doesn’t matter so much what three things I want my children to be, do, say, or wear. They are gifts from God that I unwrap a little more of each day. And I can’t wait to see what He has in store for them.”
Beautiful. An amazing thing to realize.
How lovely!! I can only pray my children learn these same truths!!
All very, very true!

[…] And, oh, isn’t there something about having children that bubbles up all that stuff that needs to be dealt with? My pBFF pointed this out in Believing God (I think) when she noted that Enoch first begat Methuselah, then he walked with God three hundred years. Coincidence? There’s just something about those little lives nestled up to ours that sends us clinging to our heavenly Father for dear life. I wrote a little bit about my own Enoch moment here. […]
